African abachi (or obeche) is a tropical wood native to the west coast of equatorial Africa. This wood is highly prized in the sauna industry. A common misconception on the market is that abachi is African oak. However, this wood has nothing in common with oak. The wood's density is incomparably lower than that of oak (on average, 400 kg/m³ for abachi versus 700-930 kg/m³ for oak).
Abachi wood is soft, lightweight, yet quite durable. It has a creamy-white to creamy-yellowish color and a fine, even texture.
