BLOG: ASPEN AND THERMOASPEN
Since its foundation, WOOD-POINT®, among other things, has focused on the production of high-quality knot-free finishing boards for baths and saunas made of aspen.

Aspen (populus tremula) has been widely used in Rus' since ancient times to produce barrels, all kinds of containers for food products, for the production of furniture, window frames, dishes, household equipment, toys and other products.

Aspen was also widely used in construction. The strength and durability of aspen buildings allows us to see numerous monuments of wooden architecture that survives thought out centuries and still could be seen. Thus, the domes of churches in ancient Rus' were covered with aspen shingles. Even where pine predominated in the forests, they preferred to build houses from aspen, since its wood is practically not affected by insect pests.

Aspen in a dry state has high elasticity and, in this indicator, surpasses not only coniferous species - pine, spruce, larch, but also oak, ash, hornbeam, poplar and others. Beams and rafters made of aspen bend much less than, for example, oak and at the same time are much lighter. Aspen wood is distinguished by its whiteness, and when in contact with water after drying, it does not collapse, but becomes even stronger and when heated does not emit resin like conifers, and also does not heat up much like birch, oak or beech wood, therefore it was traditionally used for the construction of baths.

The main advantages of aspen:
• Relatively low thermal conductivity - when heated, it does not burn the skin when touched, which is especially important for the shelf and other elements of saunas and baths that come into contact with the body
• No resin - unlike conifers, aspen does not emit resin when heated, which makes it safer and more comfortable in high temperatures
• Resistance to moisture and temperature changes - aspen does not crack or warp with sudden changes in temperature and humidity, which extends the service life of the room's lining an becnhes.
• Hygiene and antiseptic properties - aspen has natural antiseptic properties - fungi and mold do not develop well in it, which makes it hygienic in damp rooms
• Aesthetic appearance - white, sugar winter aspen with an even texture gives the sauna a neat and clean look, and thermally modified aspen has a pleasant chocolate shade with a satin texture.
